God is a good God, and wants good things for His children.

wash - rinse - repeat.

God is a good God, and wants good things for His children.

again.

God is a good God, and wants good things for His children.

Many, if not all, of us have some sort of a misconception of God. This simple statement can hold to key to unlocking those misconceptions.

God is a good God, and wants good things for His children.

God is not your earthly father, He is not the man (or men) that walked out of your life. He is not out to get you, to condemn you, to point fingers, or to rub your nose in your mistakes.

God is a good God, and wants good things for His children.

God is THE good and perfect Father, that only wants to love you, to bless you, to be with you in the hard times, and rejoice and celebrate with you in the good ones. He. Loves. You. God loves you. With an absolute, perfect love.

God is a good God, and wants good things for His children {YOU!}.

Witnessing our baby’s first steps is such a huge moment in a parent’s life. You see those wobbly little legs jibbing and jabbing all over, the furrowed brows over the chubby face full of concentration, that poor little brain in overdrive trying to reign in the jerky movements to accomplish the seemingly simple task of taking that first load-bearing step. That tiny fist clenched around your one finger almost begs you to walk alongside, to not let go. As the parent, the letting go becomes a necessity to allow your children to grow, to learn, to develop into the persons they will become, although that act alone can tear your heart in two while simultaneously filling it to overflowing with joy and pride in your offspring. The letting go is not the part I want to focus on now, but rather the first steps.

You see many Christians, as God’s children, are all too satisfied to remain on our backsides, or only crawl when instead we could run. We hit the milestone of turning over, of saying the salvation prayer and turning our lives over to Christ, but that’s where our progress ends. Our tummy’s become so rough and raw by the end of it, that many often turn right back over, giving up.

Have you tried crawling instead of walking? Try it sometime (if you’re brave enough!)  Take a walk around the block, but instead crawl. Not only is it more taxing on your joints, your skin, your muscles, your whole body, but it takes more time and energy to accomplish the task.  Such is it in the Christian “walk” for those who are satisfied at salvation.  You know and see that there is more for life to offer, but the everyday shuffle has you so worn out you have no energy or will to give to God. God has SO much more in store for us – He wants us to RUN, not just crawl!

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,…”   Hebrews 12:1

There are at least three other verses in the New Testament alone that mentions our lives, our walk with God as a race:
Acts 20:24, 1 Corinthians 9:24, and 2 Timothy 4:7.  Who races on their hands and knees?

I think God is looking at our tiny fists holding tightly to His finger, urging us to take our first steps; to step out to develop a deeper faith in Him, to grow in our understanding of His love and purpose for us, to learn how to not only walk, but to run with joy into His waiting arms at the end of the race.

I watch my now 20-month old daughter run, and everything about her movements express pure joy. Her arms start pumping, her legs move so fast she positively bounces, and her face…. On her face in the biggest, toothiest grin. That’s what God wants for us, His children. To run with unabashed joy and giddiness, wrapped in His love and purpose as we go. Are you ready to take your first step?

This first post is going to be short and sweet - very short! Mostly just to say "yay!" I have a blog - after years of putting it off, I finally have a blog! 2014 is going to be a great year. I am not normally one to buy into making New Year's Resolutions, but this year, I have decided to give it a try. One of which was...dun dun dadaaaa!.... to start a blog! I hope you stick around through my writing fumbles and sometimes rambling thoughts as I try to remember my writing rules and style. It's like riding a bike, right? This is just one of about five goals I am setting this year, and as I have already started one on only the fourth day of the year, this can only be a good sign! As I become more familiar with the blogging format, I hope to expand this site and my posts to a weekly thing. For now, they will come as I am able to write them, but will TRY to stick to one every two weeks. Here's to the new year! Hope it is your best one yet as well!
